Here’s an opportunity to experience a production of phenomenal art created by a multitude of inspired youth in Livingston County.

The 11th annual Got Art exhibit at The Opera House this month should not be missed. Got Art, an eclectic mix of student art work K-12, is a program of the Livingston Arts Council. Over 25 art teachers in Livingston County have been invited to choose and contribute student work to showcase in the popular exhibit.

The folks at the Acoustic Café and the Howell Carnegie District Library are in cahoots for a speakeasy theme at The Opera House to complement the Library’s Big Read program, The Maltese Falcon. Gangster, flapper or 1920s attire is not required, but feel free to get in the spirit! (Machine guns will be confiscated at the door.)

Snow plows aren’t the only machines working hard in Michigan these days. Sewing machines are on fire as seams, zippers, and embellishments are completed on the repurposed garments of 34 designer contestants in the 2nd Annual Project Runway Repurposed competition this Sunday at The Opera House in downtown Howell.

Jan. 29 — Jill Jack, a top-notch folk and rock singer
Feb. 5 — Jan Krist, a top Detroit area singer/songwriter

There’s no escaping the fact that it is now officially the Christmas season, with so much to see and so much to do. Around my neighborhood, almost every house (mine being the darkened exception) is aglow with decorations and strand after strand of Christmas lights. My lights lay in a colorful jumble on the living room floor. As soon as all the lights are detangled, I also need to decorate the Christmas tree. I need some inspiration.

The Black Sheep Weavers Fiber Guild will be showcasing member fiber art at its 27th annual holiday sale Dec. 4-5, including woven, knitted, crocheted, felted, rug-hooked and hand-dyed items in the form of wearable art, silk items, purses, yarns and roving, scarves, quilts, rugs, runners and beaded and embellished art to wear.
